Imagination Cubed

Imagination Cubed

Just some research-y test web-collaboration thing from GE (of all places!) but this is actually pretty damn cool. I am really starting to dig stuff made in Flash. It seems so much more powerful and flexible than you would think, and it is infintely faster and better than Java. I want more dynamic, shared interfaces that dont move like the computer you are working on was made in 1996...

Random

I havent posted in a few days.
So this is a blog entry that came from nowhere. What if I post to my blog without having referenced some other website, post, issue, news-blurb, or whatever. I guess that is what would be called "original content".

See, the thing is I am having trouble deciding how to use this thing... Is it a journal? Is it a collection of what I have found on the web? Is it someone else's junk, but that I happen to like? Who is my audience?

I know I sure as hell won't ever read this. :-)

So what then? Do I just blather into the ether and not care where it goes? If so then it gets hard not to want to blather everything, but certainly, *that's* not fit for family consumtion... Either way, I have to decide if the meme I am squirting out there to whomever is worth the time/effort to actually type out with my fingers. See, my fingers are way too slow, and become a hindrence to the process. I guess I would just get faster and faster with the typing, but even then, the finger I/O speed will always be an order of magnitude or more slower than the speed at which the brain's thought-transcript (is that, in itself a new meme? Maybe I should blog it...?) can articulate the meaning. Even trying to speak out loud to a microphone can fail you at times, so there is a lower level interface that still hasn't been mapped yet. Oh. Yes, I just re-discovered the idea of jacking in. Great.

Glad this just goes out to the ether and no one reads it.

Oh, and this is a picture of a tree out back of the building I work at, taken today. Colorful, no? If you can believe it, just yesterday, this tree was a slightly different, and slightly even more unique, bright pinkish-red, that was absolutely amazing. Even this looks nice, albeit through the crappy lens into the low-res CCD of my phonecam. I need a new camera.

How Much Is My Blog Worth - err... $0.00

Business Opportunities Weblog | How Much Is My Blog Worth

So I added the "How Much Is My Blog Worth" code to my template. It appears, not much. Well, that's to be expected. "Worth" in this context is dollart-related, and a blog is only worth its readership, which at this point is pretty nil. I guess that's up to me. Maybe I will buy some click-throughs from google.

One-Fifth of Human Genes Have Been Patented, Study Reveals

From a National Geographic article, here... Man, this is sorta like... um.. Bullshit.
But I kinda don't think, long term, that the various companies and private institutions that hold these patents will actually be able to make use of or enforce this sort of thing. The World Bank/IMF consortium may be able to force growers of now-patented cocoa plants to stop growing (or pay licensing fees, ala biopiracy), but I can't even believe that the people in the rest of the world will stand for that much longer, let alone, someday being forced by the "world police" to pay royalties/licensing on parts of the *human* genome. Am I being idealistic/naive? Probably...

Mmmmm. Eat your veggies...

Sweet! I can't wait until I can get this at Top Foods up the street... :-) From here:

Fixing Fractal Food

Romanesco is excellent raw, enhancing both the appearance and taste of an assiette de crudités. It's crunchier than cauliflower and not as bland. It has a nutty taste (and looks kind of nutty too until you get used to it!) and doesn't have the chalky edge which some people dislike in broccoli. Any dip that's good with cauliflower and broccoli will go fine with Romanesco, but be sure to try it by itself--you may decide to forgo the dip. It would be absolutely ideal to serve raw Romanesco on a platter with an image of the Mandelbrot set!

A new investment property...

Woo hoo!
We are investors again! We are closing on a new house Oct 26, and it looks like a good one. I have a pic of the place up on my flickr stream, here...

It's pretty from the outside anyway...

Social Circles

Social Circles

The guy who created this also does Newsmap (see my News link to your right...). Wow. Really great interface and interaction, and a novel use of such common data. I love it. Be sure to hit the "play" button...

I want to see more actual application interfaces in Flash like what he is doing. Take a look at some of the other stuff he has done (more art-sy than interface-y, but still great flash work). Go here.

How to Do Cube Roots of 9 Digit Numbers in Your Head

Mathematical trickery! How fun.

Just another very short post trying out various publishing mechanisms.

Just a quick hi...

from the email client. Like this lovely pic of downtown Snohomish? It was just one of the ones I snapped one sunny Saturday afternoon.

I wish I could just attach jpgs to the email and have it publish so I could actually photo-blog from my phone... Maybe I am doing something wrong.

How typical. Not surprised at all. ;-)

Birth!

A blog is born!
What sort of life will it choose for itself? Only time will tell.
